Umed Khan is an artist in the folk music spectrum of Rajasthan. He belongs to the Manganiyar community which has a history of passing on their musical talents down to the future generations. Umed comes from a remote village in the Jaisalmer district.
Umed has been learning music since the age of 12 and began to learn from his father. Most people in this community begin learning music as a child and master more than one traditional instrument during their lifetime. Similarly, Umed started learning music with the help of Dholak, Khartal, and Morchang now mastered Dholak. Along with the group of musicians lead by Rais Khan he has performed in almost all districts of Rajasthan, other cities in India as well as Indonesia
Due to a lack of opportunities in the field of folk music within the state and the country, these artists have to look for other jobs in order to earn a livelihood for their families. Currently, at the age of 19, Umed Khan aspires to make an impact on the livelihoods of the people in the community through his craft through more opportunities to showcase the art form he is inordinately passionate about.
