Revta Ram, 35, lives in a village named Hadwa, 60 Kms from Barmer city. He belongs to the Meghwal caste which is listed as a scheduled caste in the constitution of our country. He has always been living with artists all around him. Kalaakar Colony, where he lives, is also the place where he learnt music all his life. He sings all types of songs ranging from marriage songs to songs to devotional songs sung in temples. Chagna Ram has always been a teacher and a mentor to him. Revta Ram has been learning music for the past 15 years. He has been married for more than 12 years, he has 5 children and all of them attend school. He did schooling till 6th grade but could not pursue further education because of unstable financial conditions. Working as an artist, labourer and farmer allows him to keep his family financial situation stable. Even his wife is also working as a farmer to support the finances of the family. Revta Ram has performed in all the major cities of Rajasthan and North India. He is not just associated with a single group, he works on a freelance basis with multiple groups. He is also associated with the Cultural Center which allows him to explore opportunities and interact with people. Most of the shows he gets are with the help of a manager and he is well aware of the exploitation he has been facing. A website is something he needs at the moment in order to expand his reach and to become more accessible. Revta Ram sees other artists as a competition in a more positive way. He thinks competition helps improve the quality of the talent they possess. He aspires to be a known folk artist and to perform shows abroad.
