55 years old Digambar Nayak has been part of his musical group for the last 20 years in village Hajam, Jharkhand. An accomplished Naal and Dhol player he has performed in nearby cities and villages and also done shows in big cities like Kolkata and Ranchi. He remembers a time when as part of a street playgroup, they would go from village to village each day and perform. For Rs.500 a day, Digambar would play his instruments for the shows in 6 villages the entire day. A farmer and fisherman by profession but a musician at heart, Digambar hopes the song they sing and the old traditions and customs they represent do not die.
