Umar Marvika a folk song describing the feelings and emotions of a woman who has been captured by a ruler and thrown into a cell for the most part. She wants to go home and wants to be free like all her friends but the ruler won’t set her free. He shall provide her with all the amenities that she needs but won’t set her free and she is pained by the whole situation.

Lyrics –

Marvi tune na jaane de mai o
(Marvi, I won’t let you go)

Marvi o Allah! Allah!
(Oh god! Oh god!)

(I shall never let you go oh Marvi)

(Gud kha mithu, ganje ped nehaal patan)
(Eat as many sweets as you want as you look at all these trees)

Khabdi vo sanjhi khetan layak chhuga o chhaal pachhan
(You shall run across all the fields of crops)

Arre gal gat gal darne aayo ni
(Don’t be afraid Marvi)

Chhe jung maayo na marvi
(But I won’t let you go)

(I’m very sad over here, please let me go)

(I miss my home please let me go)

Umar maaru mutte manra baran re umar
(I’m very sad and my heart is not in the right place)

Ja hi li lai lalri, ho saata maaru
(Please let me go)

Munne manra maran re umar sanghi mota
(I don’t feel at home over here)

Nit assan ju bhendru, umar maaru bhit re saun ja
(Why should I sit here, when all my friends roam around happily and freely)

Umar maaru sanghi unit saun ja mitr re umar
(Please let me go I miss my home)

Bakr baba ranja, Allah oye
(All the cattle, oh lord)

Bakr baba ranja, ho saata maaru chhela tere
(Even the cattle roams around outside freely)

Chharan re umar sanghi chhela
(Oh they roam around freely)

(Please let me go, I miss home)

Dukh ja dhaara de
(I don’t feel well here)

(I’m very sad over here, please let me go)

(I miss my home please let me go)
