This folk song belongs to the season of ‘Chaiti Mas’ and describes the journey of the singer as she looks for a green coloured pearl. This happens as she looks around in different places and asks other people such as her Mother-in-law and her sister in law. The song is sung in the month on ‘Chait’ like many other traditional Chaiti songs from Banaras.

Yehi thaiyaa haaye Rama

Yehi thaiyaa motiya herai gayil Rama
(Lord Rama, I lost the pearls here)
Yehi thaiyaa motiya herail

Kothwa pe dundhli
(I looked around the house)
Atariya pe dundhli
(I searched the rooftop)
Dhundat dhundat bauraye gayili Rama
(Lord Rama, I have been losing my mind looking for them)
Kahawan mai dhundu
(Where do I look for them now?)
Yehi thaiyaa motiya herai gayil Rama
(Lord Rama, I lost the pearls here)
Kahawan mai dhundu Rama
(Where do I look for them, Lord Rama?)
Yehi thaiyaa motiya herai gayil Rama
(Lord Rama, I lost the pearls here)
Kahawan mai dhundu Rama
(Where do I look for them, Lord Rama?)
Saasu se puchhli, Nanadiya se puchhli
(I asked my Mother-in-law, and asked my Sister-in-law)
Rama
(Lord Rama)
Saasu se puchhli
(I asked my Mother-in-law)
Haan
(Yes)
Saasu se puchhli,
(I asked my Mother-in-law)
Rama
(Lord Rama)
Saasu se puchhli,
(I asked my Mother-in-law)
Saasu se puchhli, Nanadiya se puchhli
(I asked my Mother-in-law, and asked my Sister-in-law)
Aree dewra se puchhat lajaye gayili Rama
(I feel embarrassed, I feel shy asking my brother-in-law)
Dewra se puchhat lajaye gayili Rama
(I feel embarrassed, I feel shy asking my brother-in-law)
Kahawan mai dhundli
(Where do I look for them?)
Yehi thaiyaa motiya herai gayil Rama
(Lord Rama, I lost the pearls here)
Kahawan mai dhundu Rama
(Where do I look for them, Lord Rama?)
Hera gayili Rama
(I lost them, Lord Rama)
