This is a Rasiya, a form of Braj Folk. Here the song has been used in Mayur Nritya, a very enchanting folk dance form of Braj depicting an episode of love between Radha and Krishna. The poet is expressing the disappointment of Radhika, who once went to Mor Kuti (Peacock pavilion) to have a glimpse of Peacock but couldn’t find any. So to solace Radhika from her distraught, Krishna wears peacock feathers and dances like a peacock in a very playful way. Seeing her beloved Krishna, Radhika rejoices and all her pain is gone.

Lyrics –

Ek dina shri kunwar raadhika mor kuti aai
(One day, Krishna and Radha happened to visit the Peacock garden)

Nitya mayuran ko dekhan man utkantha chhayi
(They were inspired by this sudden urge to see a Peacock)

Mor wahan ekahu naay paaye
(But, unfortunately, they couldn’t find a Peacock there)

Jaan priye man utkantha prabhu Mora ban aaye
(To keep Radha away from sadness, Krishna himself took the disguise of a Peacock)

Aayo rasiya mor ban aayo rasiya
(He also made Radha’s friends dress as Peacocks)

Barsane ki mor kuti pe mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived at Barsane, disguised as a peacock)

Aayo rasiya mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived disguised as a peacock)

Barsane ki mor kuti pe mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived at Barsane, disguised as a peacock)

Ek din boli radha pyaari do din te naaye mile murari
(One day, it occurred to Radha; she hadn’t seen Krishna for days)

Bina Shyam sundar darshan ke Pyasi akhiyaan
(Her eyes restlessly searched for Shyam Sundar)

Barsane ki mor kuti pe mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived at Barsane, disguised as a peacock)

Aayo rasiya mor ban aayo rasiya
(He also made Radha’s friends dress as Peacocks)

Baje tamura tum tum tananana
(The tambourine is spinning its melodies)

Payal baje chhum chhum chhananana
(Her anklets are adding to its music)

Chhum Chhanananana baaje payaliya
(Her anklets are adding to its music)

Preet ke geet sunaaye payaliya
(They are giving life to the songs of love)

Baje tamura tum tum tananana
(The tambourine is spinning its melodies)

Payal baje chhum chhum chhananana
(Her anklets are adding to its music)

Sapt swaran sau narayan ki baaje bansuriya
(The eyes blink to match the seven notes of a flute)

Barsane ki mor kuti pe mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived at Barsane, disguised as a peacock)

Aayo rasiya mor ban aayo rasiya
(He also made Radha’s friends dress as Peacocks)

Jai ho brajraj ki bansuri ki
(All hail, the king of Braj! All hail, the flute!)

Braj mohan ki banwari ki jai
(All hail, Mohan from Braj!)

Lalita rang devi vishakha ki jai sukumari shri radha pyari ki jai
(All hail, lalita rang devi! All hail the beloved of Shri Radha!)

Nat Nagar nitya bihari ki jai sukh sagar raas bihari ki jai
(All hail, Nat Nagar Bihar! All hail, Raas Bihari!)

Prem se bolo bolte dolo bolo shri banke bihari jai jai
(Say it with love! Say it as you dance! All hail, Shri Banke Bihar!i)

Barsane ki mor kuti pe mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived at Barsane, disguised as a peacock)

Mora ban gaye madan murari
(Krishna became a peacock himself)

Aiso nritya kiyo hai bhari
(And danced with grace)

Gunj gale sir mor pakha
(Necklace adorning his neck and a crown celebrating his glory)

Chaal gayand ki mo man bhaave
(I am in awe of the way Mohan walks)

Sanwaro Nand Kishore sakhi
(He is Nand’s son)

Braj mandal me sartaj kahave
(And he is called the king of Braj)

Saaj samaaj sawaye sir taaj
(It is his wisdom that makes him worthy of the crown)

Laaj ki baat kahi na jaave
(I can’t tell him how much I love him, I shy away)

Mor banaye ke naach nachaye
(he dances like a peacock)

Mora ban gaye madan murari
(Krishna became a peacock himself)

Aiso nritya kiyo hai bhari
(And danced around with grace)

Mohit ho rahe ya chavi oopar braj ki sakhiyaan
(Everyone was in awe of what they were witnessing)

Barsane ki mor kuti pe mor ban aayo rasiya
(Krishna arrived at Barsane, disguised as a peacock)

Aayo rasiya mor ban aayo rasiya
(He also made Radha’s friends dress as Peacocks)
