Fojal, a hidden gem away from the bustling tourist hubs of Kullu and Manali, feels like a wonderland. It’s serenity and natural beauty are captivating—snow-capped peaks surround the village, while vibrant apple and peach orchards add a burst of colour and freshness.
Our host, Khekh Ram, and his group invited us to a spot that perfectly captured the essence of this enchanting place. The panoramic view from there was nothing short of magical, making it the ideal backdrop for documenting their remarkable folk performances.
Khekh Ram, a 30-year-old folk singer, draws inspiration from his parents, who instilled in him a love for traditional music. His journey began at the age of 14, driven by a dream to pursue a career in music. Growing up in Pradi Village, Kullu, Khekh Ram found his passion for folk music through village fairs and festivals.
One of his earliest memories is of his elder sister’s wedding, where elders gathered to perform Kullu Nati, the region’s traditional folk dance. That night of music and dance left an indelible impression on him, sparking a lifelong connection with his cultural heritage.
Khekh Ram attributes his melodious voice to his father, from whom he learned the art of singing Kulvi traditional songs.
