LEELADHAR RAIKWAR AND GROUP

Leeladhar Raikwar, a 47-year-old Dhimaryai dancer from Karrapur, Sagar, has been connected to this traditional art form since childhood. Watching his father perform, he developed a deep interest in the dance and began learning by observing him closely. His father, a skilled artist, played a crucial role in shaping Leeladhar’s passion for Dhimaryai. At the age of 20, he performed alongside his father on a grand stage, marking the beginning of his journey as a folk artist.

Though his father performed frequently, one significant stage performance left a lasting impact on Leeladhar. Witnessing his father’s energy and skill inspired him to dedicate himself to preserving this cultural tradition. Over the years, he has continued performing while also training the younger generation in Dhimaryai.

Alongside his performances, Leeladhar manages daily labor work but remains committed to keeping this tradition alive. For him, every performance is a way to stay connected to his roots. He believes that each Dhimaryai presentation strengthens his bond with his culture and identity.

Supporting him in preserving this art form is his dedicated team, which includes 39-year-old Amar Raikwar, also from Karrapur. Amar plays the dholak and is skilled in several other instruments, including lota, nagadiya, and jhula. His interest in folk music grew after watching his father perform, and today, he plays a vital role in the group’s performances.

The team also features 65-year-old Kachori Raikwar, a dancer from Karrapur who has been involved in folk music since the age of 12. His journey in music began with Chunni Lal Ji, and over the years, he has performed at various cultural events alongside Leeladhar. Together, they work tirelessly to ensure that the Dhimaryai tradition continues to thrive.
