Nestled in the serene landscape of Chhatarpur district, the Jhan Jhan Mata Temple serves as a spiritual haven for devotees. Located just eight kilometers from the Chhatarpur-Mahoba road bus stand, visitors can reach this sacred site via a rugged, unpaved path that leads directly to the temple. Behind it lies a small lake, where tossing coins produces a distinctive “jhan jhan” sound that resonates for about ten minutes. This unique acoustic phenomenon also echoes when stones strike the surrounding rocks, enhancing the temple’s mystical charm.

Amidst this picturesque backdrop, we captured a vibrant performance by Lakshmi Vishwakarma and her group. Hailing from Khero village in Chhatarpur, Lakshmi is an aspiring artist inspired by her mother’s involvement in a bhajan mandali. Over the past three to four years, she has been honing her singing skills and recently showcased her talent during the Kartik month celebrations in her village. With support from local artists like Ramratan Rajput, she emphasizes preserving Bundeli traditions.

Joining Lakshmi were other talented artists, including Heera Kushwaha from Bamni Ghat village. Heera has been performing traditional forms of Bundeli folk music for two years and has collaborated with notable artists like Kallu Kushwaha. Mohini Chaubey, another prominent figure from Chhatarpur, has been active in Bundeli folk music and regional films for five years, working alongside various local musicians.

The rhythm of the performance was enriched by Jayram Vishwakarma on dholak and Manish Gautam on tabla. Jayram has over 20 years of experience and has played with renowned artists, while Manish has developed his skills under the guidance of Deepak Kushwaha and collaborated with various notable musicians.

Together, these artists brought the spirit of Bundeli folk music to life against the enchanting backdrop of Jhan Jhan Mata Temple, creating a memorable experience that celebrated both their cultural heritage and artistic aspirations.
