HARIOM TALEKAR AND GROUP

Hariom Talekar, a 23-year-old artist from Alandi, Maharashtra, leads a group of talented young musicians dedicated to preserving and promoting the Varkari Sampraday tradition. Originally from Manavali, Parbhani, Hariom’s journey into music began in childhood when he was captivated by his uncle’s bhajan sessions. Encouraged by his teachers, he pursued music with unwavering passion despite financial hardships that interrupted his formal education.

Hariom specializes in performing Abhangs, blending soulful vocals with traditional instruments like cymbals. He also composes fresh tunes for ancient literature, ensuring its timeless resonance with modern audiences. His performances have garnered acclaim, including one where the Education Minister encouraged him to pursue formal music training. Hariom earns ₹20,000 per group performance, reinvesting the proceeds to organize cultural programs for youth, inspiring them to connect with their heritage.

The group includes talented artists like Omkar Chintamani, a 22-year-old from Vadvani, skilled in Kirtan and Pravachan, and a devoted practitioner of Varkari music. Munjaji Vishwanath Mutkule, 21, from Jintur, brings heartfelt devotion to his performances, playing the Pakhawaj and Harmonium, and singing with dedication.

Through their music, Hariom and his group aim to preserve the rich Varkari tradition, emphasizing the spiritual and cultural messages embedded in this legacy.
