GHOOMAN PRASAD KUSHWAHA AND GROUP

Ghooman Prasad Kushwaha, born on January 1, 1973, in Bansakala village, Damoh, is a dedicated torchbearer of Bundeli folk music. For over four decades, he has tirelessly worked to preserve the musical heritage of Bundelkhand. His father, Jugal Kishore Patel Kushwaha, a Tamura Bhajan  singer, was his first mentor, passing on a deep love for music. Under his guidance, Ghoomanji learned to sing and play various instruments, shaping his mission to keep Bundeli music alive for future generations.

Ghoomanji excels in several instruments, including the Tambura, Harmonium, Dholak, Nagadiya, Taal, and Tabla. He is also a gifted vocalist, mastering genres such as Launi, Languria, Saira, and Alha. His expertise extends to Tamura bhajan, Diwari, Rai, Khyal, and Phaag.

Beyond performing, Ghoomanji is a mentor and organizer. He founded the NGO Nehru Yuva Nav Jagriti Nav Yuvak Mandal to nurture young talent and dreams of opening a music school that teaches classical and folk music.

His team enhances his mission’s depth and talent. Mohanlal, Ghoomanji’s elder brother, is a skilled musician who learned from their father. Laxman Singh Rajput is a versatile percussionist proficient in Dholak and Tambura. Bharat Lithora plays multiple instruments and embodies the spiritual essence of Bundeli traditions. Meena Gond represents the Gond tribe from Sagar and considers Ghoomanji her guru. Ghanshyam Patel, Ghoomanji’s son, proudly carries on his father’s legacy by performing folk genres at cultural events. The youngest member, Kuldeep Dubey, began playing music five years ago.

Under Ghooman Prasad Kushwaha’s leadership, they continue to inspire and keep the cultural heartbeat of their region alive.
