Gayatree Gaikwad, a passionate 28-year-old artist from Pune, has been immersed in music from a very young age. Growing up in a family deeply rooted in classical music, Gayatree’s early exposure to the art came through her father, a renowned classical singer, and her brother, Ramakant Gaikwad, who is also a skilled vocalist. Her family’s influence shaped Gayatree’s musical journey, with her first performance taking place at the age of 3 or 4.
Her father, a member of the Warkari Sampraday, frequently performed bhajans and kirtans, and Gayatree would often accompany him to these events. Her love for classical music deepened over time, particularly in genres like ghazals and thumri, which she started exploring after completing her 12th grade.
Currently, Gayatree performs and teaches music, continuing the tradition passed down to her. She finds great joy in preserving and spreading her family’s rich musical heritage through her performances.
Her group also includes several talented artists, such as Sangeeta Suryakant Gaikwad, a 54-year-old music teacher and self-taught harmonium and tanpura player. Specializing in Marathi folk music, Sangeeta plays a crucial role in the team, contributing to the group’s strong vocal and instrumental performances.
Additionally, the group features Madhuri Shyam Golap, a 25-year-old artist from Dhasai, Thane. Despite her background in pharmacy, Madhuri has dedicated herself to learning Marathi folk music, especially Gavalan and Abhang, for the past five years. A skilled harmonium player, she is passionate about preserving the folk tradition through her performances.
Kunal Shyam Gholap, a 21-year-old artist from Dhasai, is another key member of the group. He has been learning and practicing music and harmonium for the past 7 to 8 years under esteemed teachers and is currently pursuing his BA.
Swarnika Gayatree Amol Gulhane, a 3-year-old from Pashan, Pune, is the youngest member of the family. Though she has not started formal education yet, she has already begun performing classical bandishes, abhangs, and ghazals, and has graced various stages in Pune, Mumbai, Beed, and Alandi.
Together, they form a dedicated group, keeping their musical traditions alive through their shared passion and commitment to the art. With every performance, they breathe life into the rich cultural heritage of classical music, ensuring it resonates across generations. Through their songs and performances, they celebrate their roots while fostering the continued growth and evolution of traditional art forms.
