Mushtaq Khan is a vocalist and instrumentalist from the Manganiyar community in Jaisalmer. He began to learn music during his teenage years from his grandfather, Fateh Khan. He also learned how to play various traditional instruments such as Khartal and Harmonium. Specializing in Rajasthani folk melodies that are sung and performed on numerous auspicious occasions as well as bhajans, Mushtaq Khan formed his group of folk artists and now these young musicians are on the cusp of gaining more popularity in the state.
Mushtaq Khan has only received formal education till the 7th grade. Beyond that, he began to learn and take music more seriously. He also started learning about the ragas and taals involved within the classical music spectrum such as Mada, Des, and Bhairavi. He has also performed in various districts of the state of Rajasthan as well as Delhi. Apart from classical music, he takes inspiration from a number of famous artists who sing ghazals such as Ghulam Ali, Pankaj Udhas and Mehandi Hassan.
Mushtaq Khan has represented the Manganiyar culture in countries like Italy and Thailand and wishes to get more opportunities to perform on an international level to create more recognition and awareness for his craft and his community. All the singers and instrumentalists in his group are passionate about pursuing music and intend to work in the field of music while promoting the Manganiyar culture from Rajasthan to the whole country and eventually the world.
