Zakir Khan Langa is a 26-year-old musician from Barmer, Rajasthan. Since childhood, Zakir has been playing the Khartal and Morchang under the tutelage of his guru, Ustad Aslam Khan. Kohinoor Langa, Zakir’s father is an esteemed musician who was recognized by the Queen of England for his contributions to music. Zakir belongs to a 20-member joint family where all of his brothers have been trained in music and pursue it full-time. Zakir studied until the 6th grade but dropped out of school later due to financial trouble and focusing on becoming a full-time artist and taking ahead of the family lineage. Zakir is married and would love to have his kids both study and take ahead the family legacy of musical performances. He has performed extensively in India and abroad and cites his best experience to date as being a collaboration with a Flamenco group at the Cante de las Minas festival in Spain. Zakir says that he is close to achieving his lifelong dream of performing with Ustad Zakir Hussain through a U.S. tour he’s been booked for in February where he will share the stage with the performer.
