Thanu Khan

Thanu Khan is from Barna village in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. He belongs from the Managaniyaar community of the Rajasthan and tells that the newborn in their community cries in raag and walks in rhythm as they are God gifted with the understanding of music. At the age of 8, he started learning Morchang. He has performed at various venues on both national and international grounds. He started performing at Gajendra Singh’s The Mama’s Resort and rising from there he has traveled half the world to perform. He is getting various shows currently through various event companies but feels that they are exploited. He feels proud when people take selfies with him and like their traditional wears, as it feels them like stars.

He has songs for all the occasions from birth to death. Even being from a Muslim Managaniyaar community he sings bhajans of Krishna. Thanu says that like another music interest one has to go to someone and learn the same from a teacher but in his community children take birth with the inbuilt passion of music. They don’t have much interest in studies but for them, music is everything which doesn’t let them feel the absence of education. He sings all types of songs whether it is Bollywood, Bhajan, Fusion, Folk, etc. He has given fusion performances with Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and his son Pandit Saleel Bhatt at various shows throughout the world. He has proudly presented his folk music at various international venues. He sings in all the raga whether it is desh, bhairavai, kalyani, saurath, etc., amongst all the raags his favorite is desh raag. He dreams of a time where there is no exploitation of artists on any level and they are treated fairly with the respect that they deserve.
