Tarsem Mohammad

Tarsem Mohammad is a passionate Qawwaali musician from Malerkothla, near Patiala in Punjab. He has an interest in Qawwaali music since childhood and is very fond of singing ‘Kalaams’. Inspired by his family tradition, and then by Anwar Ali, he started practising with Anwar Ali at his home. Mastering this art form gradually, day by day, with practice, he has been performing professionally with the group for twelve years now. He gives backing vocals in the group and also sings the chorus with Anwar Ali Ji. Sometimes, he also accompanies by clapping, along with singing the ‘Kalaams’. He belonged to the Fatehgarh Sahib district in Punjab before he shifted to Malerkothla district around 2006. Tarsem Ji does stitching work as a part-time job. He has always wanted his two sons and daughter to excel both in academics and music as well. He used to sit with them and make them practice when they were children. Now both his sons are gradually earning a name in the folk music community.
