Subhash Rangnath Kavare, a 59-year-old farmer from Tikhol village in Ahmednagar, embodies the profound connection between rural life and soulful music. A self-taught harmonium player who started at 15, Subhash also plays the peti and tuntune with effortless grace. His deep interest in music was sparked by listening to folk renditions by relatives of his mentor, Choure Guruji, at a young age.
Subhash’s repertoire includes folk forms like Bhedik and Kalgi Tura, and he has performed at spiritual gatherings across Pune, Kolhapur, and Ahmednagar. For him, music isn’t just an art—it’s a spiritual practice, a way to imbibe the teachings of saints and connect with the divine. Despite a modest formal education, Subhash carries forward this cultural legacy with passion, ensuring its vibrance in his rural community. His life’s rhythm balances the toil of farming with the transcendence of music, a harmony he wishes to sustain forever.
