Sikandar Khan Langa is 32 and hails from Barna in Bharmer. He has been performing with this group for 15 years and plays khadtaal and harmonium. According to him, Rajasthani folk music has its roots in the tales and stories passed on through generations and hence, there are songs about sweet nothings between a husband and a wife, or the lament of a girl leaving her maternal home after marriage. They use all classical raagas, and their community “Langas” have been singing since ages. He has been brought up in a musical environment but misses being educated because he comes from a rural area and there were no schools around while he was growing up. His earnings are mostly through music. He recalls his best performance like the one in Paris when he performed in front of almost 6000 people. He feels that there should be a website for their videos and they should have a manager which will help them in finding better opportunities and streamline their concerts professionally.
