48-year-old Sattidin Kushwaha from Muskera is well-known in Bundelkhand for performing Kachiayi folk songs, a Hindustani raag-based tune. It is typically performed as a sawaal-jawaab event on festivals and other occasions. It not only requires mastery over singing and music but also over writing poetry. Sattidin learnt singing and playing the sarangi from his uncle, who has been a singer all his life. Additionally, he also learnt to write poetry from his guru, Thakurdas Rajput.
Kachiayi is a very versatile tune, and many folk genres can be sung in this tune, like Gari, Khayal, Lamtera and others. Sattidin also writes songs on contemporary issues in this tune. During the coronavirus pandemic, he was stuck in Delhi with his daughter, and he was inspired to write a piece on it. Likewise, he is rather observant of issues and happenings around him and writes songs about them. He has performed all around his district and other places in Bundelkhand, like Chattarpur and Chitrakoot.
He is a mason by profession and a farmer but primarily earns by working on the construction. He has taught his son and nephews to be singers in Kachiayi too. He has been running his group for about 20 years and has won many such Kachiayi competitions.
