Sangeeta Suryakant Gaikwad

Sangeeta Suryakant Gaikwad, a 54-year-old music teacher residing in Shindewadi, Katraj, Pune, has been very much attached to music all her life. Studying up to the 10th standard, Sangeeta is self-taught in several forms of music, learning from her father, Suryakant Gaikwad, a highly regarded person in the music field. Music is her family’s heritage, with both her father and brother being ardent singers, so it’s a real tradition in her home.

Sangeeta is a proficient player of the harmonium and tanpura and is renowned for her strong singing talent. She specializes in Marathi folk music, especially in forms such as Jogwa, Bhajan, and Gawlan. According to her, music is the essence of her life and she is committed to handing down this tradition. As a music instructor, she aims to share the rich musical heritage of her community and family with the hope that future generations will enjoy and keep the cultural legacy.
