Raj Kumar, at the age of 41, is quite popular among his peers and the local folks at his hometown who endorse him as the most entertaining Shehnai master in town. He knows and understands almost every instrument used in the traditional folk music of Himachal Pradesh. He started learning at the age of 13 from his guru, Neelchand, who lived close to his house in Bari which is his birthplace and hometown in Kullu. Raj Kumar has a daughter who is married and two sons; one working as a paragliding instructor and the other learning the skills to become a carpenter.
He has performed in cities like Chandigarh, Delhi, and Pushkar (in Rajasthan) and won a number of accolades while performing Nati music and dance at events like Manali Winter Carnival (1st prize in 2018) and Kullu Dussehra (runner up in 2016).
Raj Kumar wishes to pursue his talent in music and has a desire to keep learning and growing in this field as he believes the learning curve is a never-ending process. He also wants to encourage more people to understand the local culture of Himachal and portray it to the best of his abilities with his music.
