Raees Khan is an artist in the folk music spectrum of Rajasthan. He belongs to the Manganiyar community which has a history of passing on their musical talents down to future generations. Raees hails from Khelana village of Jaisalmer district.
Raees has been learning music since the age of 15. Most people in this community begin learning music as a child and master more than one traditional instrument during their lifetime. Similarly, Raees started learning music with the help of Khartal, and now mastered Khartal. Along with the group of musicians lead by Haape Khan he has performed in almost all districts of Rajasthan and other parts of the country as well.
Due to a lack of latitude in the field of folk music within the state and the country, these artists have to resort to/find/look for other jobs in order to earn a livelihood for their families. Currently, at the age of 24, Raees aspires to make an impact on the livelihoods of the people in the community through his craft through more opportunities to showcase the art form he is inordinately passionate about.
