Prabha Dutta Mahadik, 52 years old, is another artist from Mangalwar Peth, Pune, Maharashtra, and has the distinction of having worked for over 40 years in folk music and performance. She had only up to 1st standard of formal education; however, her lustrous career encompasses performing traditional forms like Jagran, Gondhal, Lavani, and Bharud. Tuntuna is used as a major accompanying instrument during her performances. Prabha’s family is rich in arts; both her parents were folk artists, while her mother danced in Tamasha. Prabha’s inspiration was her mother, and as a young girl, she would imitate her dance from behind the curtain. She has been singing Marathi Lavani and Hindi Lavani and singing in chorus for years now in various performances in Maharashtra. She earns her living in music, sustaining her family on this. Folk art is her passion, and she fervently seeks to preserve and develop it.
