Group: Bishwanath and Group
Om Prakash Prabhakar, 76, is in charge of the group. He used to learn music from Bishwanath Ji’s maternal uncle who was a very famous folk singer regionally. In 1976, he started learning from him and decided to create a group of like-minded people who had the same passion as him to sing and bring forward the legacy of ancestors of Himachal Pradesh. He is a retired lecturer and feels proud of his students whom he has taught. Today, it had been 20 years after his retirement from college. He had always been interested in folk songs and folklore and started writing songs and poems at a very young age. Even today, he writes and makes compositions. He is afraid that if he dies then music will also die with him so he wanted to teach people and his children music and songs. He wishes that the government should take initiatives to conserve it by providing financial help to people who sing and wants to pass his torch of pahadi music to the younger generation. He is concerned that one of the main reasons why people don’t follow music is that there are not many employment opportunities so no one wants to pursue it.
