Nath Singh

Nath Singh Ji is an old folk artist who has been performing Giddha professionally since he was 20 years old. He plays the traditional wooden folk instrument, ‘Sapp’. He hails from Chattha village in Sangrur, Punjab. He also does farming, which is his family profession. All the members of his family are collectively involved in farming. As a child, he used to do the Giddha with his elders in the family, and with his group of friends too. He learned the art form gradually, carrying forward his family tradition. He has performed in various states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Mumbai, and has always received appreciation from the audience. His children are also learning from him, he has made sure to inculcate the desire of learning folk art into his children and pass on the cultural heritage to the future generations.
