Moti Khan is an artist in the folk music spectrum of Rajasthan. He belongs to the Manganiyar community which has a history of passing on their musical talents down to future generations. Moti hails from Baiyya village of Jaisalmer district.
Moti has been learning music since the age of 10 and began to learn from his guru, Kheta Khan, who is his paternal uncle. Most people in this community begin learning music as a child and master more than one traditional instrument during their lifetime. Similarly, Moti started learning music with the help of Dhol, Khartal, and vocals. Along with the group of musicians lead by Kheta Khan he has performed in almost all districts of Rajasthan and other cities such as Mumbai and Goa.
Due to a lack of opportunities in the field of folk music within the state and the country, these artists have to resort to other jobs in order to earn a livelihood for their families. Currently, at the age of 19, Moti aspires to make an impact on the livelihoods of the people in the community through his craft through more opportunities to showcase the art form he is inordinately passionate about.
