Labu Ram

Labu Ram, 55, lives in a village named Badresh, 60 kms from Barmer city. He has been learning music for more than 20 years now. Before pursuing music as a full time activity, he used to work as a farmer. He never went to a school but he made sure that his kids get the required education. His father and grandfather have been the source of inspiration in his life. His father used to take him to the temples where he watched musicians perform and that is how he developed a taste for music. He plays jod, also known as manjira in the group. His kids are also inclined towards music and he believes they learn more from observation than from teaching. He wants his kids to pursue education and explore themselves as artists. Most of the performances Labu Ram gets are local and in the nearby regions of Barmer city. He gets his shows on a recommendation basis or from known contacts. He does around 5-8 shows per month and gets around Rs 500 per show. He wishes to perform outside Rajasthan and in other cities of India. He does singing for the sake of his inner peace and serenity.
