Hanif Khan is a young and upcoming artist in the folk music spectrum of Rajasthan. He belongs to the Manganiyar community which has a history of passing on their musical talents down to future generations. Hanif hails from Khelana village of Jaisalmer district.
Hanif has been learning music since the age of 8 and began to learn from his grandfather, Nadri Khan. Most people in this community begin learning music as a child and master more than one traditional instrument during their lifetime. Similarly, Hanif started learning music with the help of his vocal ability. Along with the group of musicians lead by Sabir Khan he has performed in almost all districts of Rajasthan, Delhi, and Tripura as well.
Due to a lack of opportunities in the field of folk music within the state and the country, these artists have to resort to other jobs in order to earn a livelihood for their families. Currently, at the age of 16, Hanif aspires to make an impact on the livelihoods of the people in the community through his craft through more opportunities to showcase the art form he is inordinately passionate about through a break into the film industry.
