Group: The Roots Music
Habib Khan is a vocalist from the Mirar tribe of the Manganiyar community, which resides in Chelak village. He began to learn music during his teenage years from his father, Ramzan Khan. Specializing in folk melodies that are sung and performed on numerous auspicious occasions as well as bhajans, Habib Khan formed his group of folk artists and now these musicians are on the cusp of gaining more popularity in the state as they perform their art for the common folk as well as Royal families such as the Bhati family of Jaisalmer who are their patrons.
Habib Khan lives in a large family and has five brothers. Each one of his brothers is working in music and has learned classical as well as folk music. Habib himself began to learn music at a young age of just ten as he took inspiration to sing from his father. Eventually, he even started learning and developing a certain level of finesse in playing the harmonium.
Habib Khan has only received formal education until middle school. Beyond that, he began to learn and take music more seriously. He also started learning about the ragas and taals involved within the classical music spectrum and considers the Kalyan raga as his favorite raga of all ragas as it perfectly blends into the environment during the evening time.
All the singers and instrumentalists in this group are passionate about pursuing music and intend to work in the field of music while promoting the Manganiyar culture from Rajasthan to the whole country and eventually the world.
