With 35 years into this practice of music, Ganpat Rambhau Rahinj is a 58-year-old farmer from Parner Taluka in Ahmednagar district. An arts family that boasts of musical lineage has slightly more than 35 years of Ganpat needing to uphold the traditions and musical conventions inherited from his grandfather first and later his father. He plays the khanjiri, sambhal, and tuntuna and is known for his nostalgic singing of Khandoba geet. Encouraged by his family music traditions, Ganpat has performed in the surrounding villages. He has an even more exalted honor of performing along with his singing on Aakashvani Pune. Music is more for Ganpat than a hobby; rather, it seems synonymous for him with life, a tradition to his role and purpose. For him, this is on one side an entertainment form, and on the other, it is a means of income. He places faith in the government, which he believes ought to do something for artists such as him at a later stage in life, paying due regard to the preservation of cultural heritage.
