Eklas Khan

Eklas Khan is a 26-year-old Sarangi player from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He has been playing the Sarangi since childhood which he learnt from his father and his guru Mohd. Shafiq Khan. He performs with his family group that consists of 3 musician brothers of whom he is the youngest. Eklas is married with a child on the way. Although he hasn’t gone to school himself, he would like for his children to both study and pursue music. During peak season, Eklas manages to secure about 20-30 shows form which he earns Rs. 5000/person/show. He has performed almost across all states in India and has the opportunity to perform abroad 8 times in countries such as Japan, Italy, Spain and Germany. He usually receives show bookings form festival managers who reach out to him or cultural institutions such as the ICCR which arranges for him to perform abroad.
