Dolma

A singer in the midst of a culture that has grown to become increasingly supportive of women, Dolma is from the ‘Mahila Mandal’ of Chhanni Khod, a village located near Manikaran. She is an inspiration not only to her daughter, who has also developed a keen interest in the field of music but to every woman in the region who wants to follow the path that rouses them the most.

As a woman coming from a small family, Dolma has a lot on her plate, like the responsibility of her home, along with a farm and cattle. Along with her husband and two children, who are in the prime of their lives, she takes all her duties and simultaneously walks on the path that fascinates her the most. With her family’s support and the ‘Mahila Mandal’, she makes time to perform at various events at Kullu Kala Kendra. She made her first appearance with the group in 2002 and has been performing there yearly since then.

Even though the budget of the shows is not nearly enough to pay the group substantial rewards, the group does not cease to quench their own appetite for entertaining people with their melodies. The group as a whole desire to pursue opportunities to perform and showcase their talent and promote the traditional folk music of the region outside Kullu and, eventually, every state in the country.
