Devu Khan

Devu Khan is an artist in the folk music spectrum of Rajasthan. He belongs to the Manganiyar community which has a history of passing on their musical talents down to the future generations. Devu Khan hails from Boruda village of Jaisalmer district.

Devu Khan has been learning music since the age of 10 and began to learn from his guru, Sawai Khan. Most people in this community begin learning music as a child and master more than one traditional instrument during their lifetime. Similarly, Devu started learning music with the help of Khartal, and now mastered Khartal. Along with the group of musicians lead by Sawai Khan, he has performed in almost all districts of Rajasthan.

Due to a lack of opportunities in the field of folk music within the state and the country, these artists have to look for other jobs in order to earn a livelihood for their families. Currently, at the age of 21, Devu aspires to make an impact on the livelihoods of the people in the community through his craft through more opportunities to showcase the art form he is inordinately passionate about.
