Belonging to the Harijan community of Himachal Pradesh, and currently, at the age of just 33, Deep Lal has written and composed over 300 songs. Deep Lal had committed himself to the field of music during his years in school. It was a time of struggle since he would go to school in the morning and work at a farm in the evenings and the only time he could find for completing his school work was at night. He won various accolades and competitions for his school as well as displayed his abilities at the national level. He went on to learn theatre in Chandigarh where he met the famous comedian and actor Johnny Lever, who later on offered him a chance to work in Mumbai but Deep Lal had to turn this offer down due to financial instability. He completed his Master’s degree in music from Shimla University in 2007 and started a business for tents, DJ equipment, and filmmaking in the year 2009.
Deep Lal is a deeply religious individual who writes about singing to the gods as well as the daily idiosyncrasies of life. He is also well versed with the music related to the traditional “Nati” dance which is the local folk dance of Himachal Pradesh and has earned a mention in the Guinness book of world records for being the largest folk dance ever performed. From Goa to Srinagar, Deep Lal has taken his opportunities to perform across the whole country and has been appreciated for his talent everywhere. He has also been called upon by Karan Singh, the brother of Raja Maheshwar Singh, on various occasions for Nati parties.
Deep Lal has taken inspiration from artists like SD Kashyap, who is much coveted in the state of Himachal Pradesh and wishes to be the inspiration for young and upcoming artists of the region. He aims to make way to Bollywood and promote Himachali culture and traditions across the country.
