Bharat, 22, lives in a village named Bishala 30 km from Barmer city. He belongs to the Meghwal caste which is listed as a scheduled caste under the constitution of our country. He started learning music when he was 10 years old and his father has always been a source of motivation and inspiration for him. Till 7th grade, he was able to maintain a balance between his passion for music and studies but poor financial conditions made him quit school and he had to help his father in order to get some economic stability. He also works as a labourer to make ends meet. He thinks the musicians of his caste are not earning much from their art but still do it for the sake of sole devotion and passion. His father used to take him to the temples where he used to see these folk artists perform and that is how it all began. Bharat Kumar believes artists who are involved with bhajans are messengers of God, The prime purpose of bhajan is to keep a person away from the distractions of life and keep them calm and composed.
