Bapu Kashinath Jadhav

From Taluka Karjat, District Ahmednagar, Bapu Kashinath Jadhav, a 65-year-old musician, has spent over 35 years perfecting and performing music. He is also a good singer, so he plays several instruments including the dholaki, halgi, pakhawat, and dimdi with knowledge up to the 4th grade. When he was small, he went to many music performances; therefore, music became an early passion for him. From Mahadev Ghodke he learned and has by now perfected many Marathi folk music types like Sangeet Natak, Tamasha, Gondal, and Potraj. Having found great delight and amusement in his craft, Bapu has entertained on big Tamasha shows. For him, music is not only a love but a way of life; he is determined to pass this tradition on. Presently, he imparts to his younger son the art of music, wishing to guarantee that this valuable cultural heritage endures for future generations.
