Anil Brahma, aged 57, is a proud member of the Bodo Tribe residing in the serene town of Laukhata, Bagsa. His close-knit family consists of his wife, daughter, son, and himself, all sharing a deep appreciation for their cultural heritage. Anil’s musical talents are showcased through his mastery of traditional instruments, including the Kham, a percussion instrument crafted from wood and parchment; the Sifung, a mesmerising long-wind instrument made of bamboo resembling a flute; and the soulful Bansuri.
Anil’s passion for music has been ingrained in him since childhood, as he self-taught himself to play these traditional instruments. Alongside his musical pursuits, Anil’s daughter also actively participates in Bodo dance, keeping the family’s artistic spirit alive. In 2005, Anil joined the esteemed Bikroma group, where he thrives as a musician, enthralling audiences with his melodic performances.
Balancing his artistic endeavours, Anil also nurtures his connection with nature as a diligent farmer. The rich and vibrant Bodo Tribe Sanskriti (culture) serves as a profound inspiration for Anil, motivating him to preserve and showcase the beauty of his heritage through his musical expressions. With every note he plays, Anil Brahma becomes a custodian of the Bodo Tribe’s rich musical legacy.
